SeaWindow is a marine-weather app for small-boat anglers, published by Mitux LLC(California). This policy explains what the app collects, why, who processes it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as the app can work with.
Using SeaWindow without an account
An account is optional. Without one, the app works normally: your device holds your saved spots and settings, and our server answers weather requests for the area you are looking at. An account exists only to link several of your own devices so your saved spots appear on all of them.
What we collect and why
Location. With your permission, the app uses your device locationonly while the app is in use — to show conditions near you and to center the spot picker. It is not used in the background and the app does not track your movements. To answer “what are conditions here?”, the coordinates you are viewing are sent to our server, which fetches the forecast for that area. In our server logs, coordinates are truncated to roughly 0.1° (about 11 km) so precise positions are not stored.
Spots you save. The name and coordinates of each spot you add. Spots are stored on your device; if you sign in, they are also stored on our server so they sync to your other devices.
Alerts you set. The thresholds you choose for a spot (such as maximum wind, gust, wave height and minimum wave period) and whether to be notified on official marine warnings. We store these to evaluate conditions and notify you.
A device record. An app-generated device identifier (a random ID created by the app — not your phone’s advertising identifier), your platform (iOS or Android), language, unit preference, and your selected boat profile. If you turn on alerts, we also store a push-notification token for your device. This keeps your settings and lets us deliver alerts.
Account details (only if you sign in). If you sign in by email, we store your email address. If you use Sign in with Apple, we store the stable identifier Apple gives us and the email or private-relay address Apple returns — Apple may hide your real email. Sign-in codes and session tokens are stored only as hashes; the usable token is shown to your device once and never stored in the clear.
Who processes your data
- Our own server. Mitux LLC’s backend receives your area requests, spots, alert rules, device record and account details. (It runs on our own infrastructure and is moving to a dedicated server before wider launch.)
- Weather & marine data sources. To answer a request, our server queriesOpen-Meteo and the U.S. government services NOAA, NWS, NDBC and CO-OPS for forecasts, buoy observations, tides and official warnings. They receive an approximate location or the nearest station — not your identity or account.
- Email delivery — Resend. Only when you sign in by email, to send your one-time code. Resend receives the recipient address and the code.
- Push delivery. If you enable alerts, notifications are delivered through Apple Push Notification service (iOS) or Firebase Cloud Messaging (Android) via Expo’s push service, using your device’s push token.
- App stores. Apple and Google handle app downloads and any future purchases under their own privacy policies.
What we do not do
- No advertising SDKs and no advertising identifiers.
- No third-party analytics, tracking, or profiling SDKs.
- No background location tracking.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information.
How we protect it
Traffic between the app and our server is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Sign-in codes and session tokens are stored only as SHA-256 hashes. Coordinates are truncated before they reach our logs.
How long we keep it
Your account, spots and alert rules are kept while your account or device is active, until you delete them. Sign-in codes expire within minutes. Cached weather data on our server is not personal to you.
Your choices and rights
You can use the app without an account; sign out at any time (your spots stay on the device); and delete your account and everything synced to it — use the delete option in the app, or email us and we will delete it for you. You may also ask us what we hold about you and to correct it. Write to contact@mituxlabs.com.
California & U.S. privacy
California residents have the right to know what personal information we hold, to have it deleted or corrected, and not to have it sold. We do not sell personal information. To exercise any of these, contact contact@mituxlabs.com; we will not discriminate against you for doing so.
International users
Our servers are in the United States. If you use the app from elsewhere, your information is processed in the United States.
Children
SeaWindow is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the “last updated” date above changes with it.
